Deadly Militant Attack Claims 43 Lives in Eastern Congo

In eastern Congo, 43 individuals were killed by militants associated with the Islamic State. The attack, attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces, saw homes set ablaze and victims killed or abducted. This forms part of a rising trend in civilian attacks in the region.

Forty-three individuals lost their lives in a tragic attack by militants linked to the Islamic State in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a statement by the Congolese army.

The assault occurred in Bafwakoa village of Mambasa territory, Ituri province, around 7 p.m. local time. The Allied Democratic Forces, a recognized affiliate of the Islamic State, were blamed for the violence.

In a brutal onslaught, 44 houses were torched, and some victims were slain with machetes or burned alive in their homes. Two individuals were also abducted. The situation underscores the escalating ADF attacks on civilians in Ituri and North Kivu provinces.
