The Karnataka State Commission for Women has formally requested a comprehensive report on the Hampi rape case from Koppal's Superintendent of Police, Ram Arasiddi. This follows an incident on March 6, where two women, one of whom was an Israeli national, were allegedly assaulted near the historic site of Hampi.

The women were part of a group that had gone to the Tungabhadra Canal for stargazing. The assailants reportedly approached them under the pretense of needing petrol and subsequently demanded money. When the group refused additional funds, the situation escalated, leading to the assault and robbery of the tourists.

An FIR has been filed at Gangavathi Rural Police Station, and the case is being investigated under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, including charges of attempted murder, robbery, and rape. The State Women's Commission emphasizes the importance of severe penalties and increased protection for women at tourist destinations.
