Empowering Green: ArcelorMittal's Giant Leap into Renewable Energy in India

ArcelorMittal has initiated clean energy supply to AMNS India in Gujarat from a 1 GW solar and wind project in Andhra Pradesh. This project aims to cut carbon emissions by 1.5 million tonnes annually, helping reduce steel production's CO2 intensity by 20% by 2030.

Global steel and mining leader, ArcelorMittal, has embarked on a significant green initiative, making strides in renewable energy by supplying clean electricity to AMNS India in Gujarat. This power comes from its expansive 1-gigawatt solar and wind project sited in Andhra Pradesh.

Developed at a cost of USD 0.7 billion, the project, executed by ArcelorMittal's wholly-owned subsidiary AM Green Energy, stands as the company's largest renewable energy endeavor. Corporate CEO Aditya Mittal underscored the project's importance in meeting decarbonization objectives and providing sustainable energy security for steelmaking operations.

Spanning a massive 2,400 acres for solar and 700 acres for wind energy, the site is equipped with 1.5 million solar panels and 91 wind turbines. Fully operational, it is poised to generate 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours annually. The project is pivotal in ArcelorMittal's suite of strategic growth efforts, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy across its global operations.
