Bihar Electoral Revamp: Ensuring Every Voice Counts

Ahead of Bihar's state assembly polls, the Election Commission of India has launched a Special Intensive Revision to refine electoral rolls, ensuring no eligible voter is missed. Concurrently, it is delisting 345 inactive political parties, emphasizing efficiency and voter inclusion. Approximately one lakh volunteers aid this comprehensive initiative.

The Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, aimed at guaranteeing that all eligible voters are included in the list while ineligible ones are removed. This initiative includes the deployment of 100,000 volunteers to assist vulnerable groups such as the elderly, sick, and persons with disabilities in completing their Enumeration Forms.

Commissioner Kumar emphasized that ensuring an accurate voter roll is essential for fair elections. The SIR's mission strives to prevent the exclusion of rightful voters and the inclusion of ineligible ones, maintaining the integrity of the electoral process. This action comes as a precursor to the upcoming Bihar assembly elections slated for the end of this year.

In addition to refining the voter list, the Election Commission is also undertaking a rigorous assessment of Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs). Out of over 2,800 RUPPs, about 345 have been marked for delisting due to their failure to engage in elections over the past six years. This exercise underscores the Commission's move towards transparency and accountability in the political landscape ahead of Bihar's pivotal elections.
