Streamlined Solar Future: India Advances its Energy Goals

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy mandates using solar cells from the Approved List of Models & Manufacturers (ALMM) starting one month after list publication, enhancing consumer protection, energy security, and the domestic solar industry's growth. This move aligns with expanding solar manufacturing capacities.

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has mandated using solar cells listed in the Approved List of Models & Manufacturers (ALMM) for government projects, effective one month after the list's publication. This initiative aims to bolster consumer confidence and enhance energy security.

ALMM, introduced in 2019, ensures the reliability of producers and promotes local manufacturing of solar panels. The recent amendment extends the list to include solar cells. From June 1, 2026, it will be compulsory for projects to use ALMM-listed solar PV cells.

The updated regulations are expected to streamline bid submissions, boosting domestic solar cell production to align with the growing module manufacturing capacity. Currently, India's solar PV capacity stands at 91 GW for modules and 27 GW for cells, marking a significant advancement in the solar industry.
