The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert predicting widespread heavy rainfall across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between August 4 and August 6, 2025. The announcement follows recent light to moderate showers in these regions, with heavy rain observed at isolated spots in Haryana.

Forecasters anticipate an escalation in rain intensity in coming days. August 4 is expected to see sporadic light to moderate showers, leading to a surge of rainfall over northern and eastern Punjab, and across northern, eastern, and southern parts of Haryana, including Chandigarh, starting August 5. Widespread rainfall is forecast for August 5 and 6, with northern and eastern Punjab, as well as parts of Haryana, likely experiencing heavy downpours.

Of significant concern is the potential for very heavy rain exceeding 12 cm in isolated districts like Yamunanagar, and Karnal, indicating risks of waterlogging, crop damage, and infrastructure issues. The IMD urges precautions, advising farmers against field irrigation during rains, and recommending civilians avoid waterlogged areas. Detailed district forecasts have been provided as authorities call for public vigilance.
