Uddhav Thackeray Criticizes Modi Over Farmers' Issues Amid US Tariff Increase

In a strong critique directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday questioned the sincerity of the government's concern for farmers following a 25 percent additional tariff on Indian goods by the United States. He highlighted the neglect farmers faced during their 2020-21 protests against the Farm Bills, where many were barred from entering Delhi and some even lost their lives.

Thackeray accused the government of employing double standards, saying, "The farmers who wished to come to Delhi were stopped. Some died, yet the government ignored them. Now, they're remembered conveniently." He further alleged that the administration's facade of lies is unraveling, exposing the uneasy truths beneath the surface.

With tensions mounting, Thackeray lashed out over the disparity between rhetoric and action, claiming, "Everyone now claims to be a farmer's son, recalling the past where farmers were marginalized and labeled. These lies are being uncovered one by one." As he prepares to attend the INDIA bloc meeting at Rahul Gandhi's residence, Thackeray assured that he and his brother Raj are capable of addressing these issues without outside mediation.

Echoing Thackeray's sentiments, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Modi administration, urging a reassessment of priorities established ten years ago. He lamented the current state of sectoral neglect, noting the broader societal impacts on employment and industry. "Where is our country heading?" he questioned, addressing the loss of international respect that the government once claimed was enduring.

In response to these criticisms, Modi strongly reiterated his commitment to the agricultural sector, claiming unwavering support for farmers' rights before delegates at the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference. The Prime Minister emphasized, "For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers."
