The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) remains watchful amid evolving uncertainties surrounding tariffs, according to Governor Sanjay Malhotra. In the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held from August 4-6, the decision was made to maintain the key interest rate at 5.5%.
The unanimous decision by the MPC, consisting of the Governor and five other members, reflects India's robust economic fundamentals and forward-looking policies. While the nation's growth remains steady, recent moderation in food prices has contributed to a more benign inflation environment.
Governor Malhotra indicated that although inflation may remain below target in the short term, it is expected to rise from Q3 onwards. He underscored the need for vigilance in monetary policy due to ongoing external uncertainties.
