Dramatic Rescue: 80 Trapped Miners Saved in Dominican Republic

In a tense and dramatic operation, 80 miners have been safely rescued from a partially collapsed mine in the Dominican Republic. The incident took place at the Cerro of Maimón mine, a zinc and copper site northwest of Santo Domingo.

According to the Civil Defence Agency, the trapped miners emerged unscathed, much to the relief of their anxious families waiting nearby. The Ministry of Energy and Mines confirmed that the workers were located in a secure area underground and were gradually lifted to safety.

The Dominican Mining Corp, a subsidiary of the Australian firm Perilya, manages the mining concession, which has a long history of incidents, including a fatal collapse in 2021 and a dramatic rescue in 2022. The mine holds significant reserves of copper and zinc spread over 2,245 hectares.
