An index tracking emerging market equities reached its highest in over four years, driven by easing Sino-U.S. trade tensions and artificial intelligence advancements. The MSCI EM equities index gained nearly 1%, with currencies also strengthening ahead of a Federal Reserve call on monetary policy.
In a notable development, an index tracking emerging market equities surged to a peak not seen in over four years, buoyed by indications of easing tensions between the U.S. and China, alongside rising enthusiasm for artificial intelligence.
MSCI's EM equities index climbed 0.97%, marking its highest level since February 2021. Concurrently, a currency gauge neared a one-month high as markets anticipated a crucial Federal Reserve decision on monetary policy, expecting a 25 basis point interest rate reduction.
Optimism was further fueled by reports of China's COFCO purchasing U.S. soybeans and expectations that President Trump might secure a trade deal with China, potentially reducing tariffs. Meanwhile, AI-related news uplifted tech-heavy markets in South Korea and Taiwan.
