Italy's Terna has completed work on an enhanced power grid network for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, with an investment worth around 300 million euros ($345 million), the state-controlled group said in a statement. The projects, designed to minimise the impact on the landscape, include 130 km of power lines which have been made completely "invisible" and cover Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto, the regions where the Games will take place. More than 150 companies and over 450 technicians and operational staff were involved.
The upgrades will boost energy reliability in areas hosting the Games, scheduled for February and March next year, the power grid operator added. "This investment will outlast the Olympic event itself: thanks to the work carried out on the electricity grid for Milano Cortina 2026, citizens and businesses will continue to enjoy a higher-quality electricity system for years to come," said Giuseppina Di Foggia, the chief executive of Terna.
