The Indian Navy announced the commissioning of INS Mahe on Monday, marking a significant enhancement in its anti-submarine warfare capabilities. INS Mahe is the first of the Mahe-class shallow water craft, designed to strengthen India's maritime security.

Armed with torpedoes and advanced anti-submarine rockets, INS Mahe is poised to protect India's coastal territories and vital maritime approaches. The ship, built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, represents a key advancement in India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative.

With over 80% of its components sourced indigenously, the vessel is a testament to India's burgeoning sophistication in warship design and construction. The ship's crest features an 'Urumi', symbolic of the ship's agility and precision, and it is named after the coastal town of Mahe on the Malabar Coast.
