Kurdistan's Energy Crisis: Restarting Khor Mor Gas Field Amidst Attacks

The Kurdistan region of Iraq has swiftly reached an agreement to restart production at the Khor Mor gas field, ensuring a critical restoration of electricity supply. The decision comes just days after a significant attack on the field, which serves as a major energy source in the region.

On the heels of the incident, Dana Gas, the joint field operator, confirmed that a rocket attack earlier led to the field's shutdown and triggered widespread power outages. In an eerie repetition of attacks, there has been no immediate claim of responsibility, leaving the community in suspense about the motivations behind this aggression.

Additional distress unfolded on Saturday when an assault on fuel tanker trucks in Erbil resulted in casualties. The Kurdistan region's Interior Ministry attributed the attack to so-called 'rioters.' Meanwhile, in an expression of cooperation, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended gratitude to Dana Gas for their resilience, simultaneously urging accountability and justice from Iraqi authorities against those responsible for the attacks.
