This Saturday, the Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, is set to visit Meghalaya to open the much-anticipated Integrated Textile & Tourism Centre (ITTC) in Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi district. The visit signifies an important step toward assessing and supporting initiatives boosting the indigenous muga silk, renowned for its golden hue globally.

Accompanied by Union Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, Singh will evaluate ongoing efforts in conservation and seed production. The ITTC, aimed at enhancing Meghalaya's rich textile heritage, serves as an immersive hub promoting local traditions and sustainable tourism.

In addition to providing a cultural platform, the event also marks the start of the National Handicrafts Week with the Handicraft Awards 2025 ceremony, honouring master craftspersons. President Droupadi Murmu, as Chief Guest, with Singh and Margherita present, will celebrate India's artistic excellence and commitment to preserving diverse craft heritage.
