In a tragic turn of events, a fire at a Goa nightclub claimed the lives of two brothers from Jharkhand, Pradeep Mahto, 24, and Binod Mahto, 20, along with another migrant worker, Mohit Munda, 22. The incident, which took place post-midnight on Sunday, led to a total of 25 fatalities, including 14 staff members.
The bodies of Pradeep and Binod were brought to their ancestral village of Fatehpur in Lapung, where they were cremated on the banks of the Karo river, 60 km from the state capital, amidst a gathering of villagers and local officials. The brothers, who had migrated to Goa a year ago, regularly sent money to their family. Their untimely demise has left their family and community in mourning.
Mohit Munda's remains have also been returned to his native village, Govindpur, for traditional tribal last rites. Agriculture Minister Shilpy Neha Tirkey, who helped in coordinating the return of the bodies, plans to discuss welfare measures for the victims' families with the Chief Minister. The state Labor Department has already extended financial aid, disbursing Rs 50,000 to each grieving family.
