Maharashtra Extends Enrollment Deadline for Crop Insurance

Farmers in Maharashtra cultivating mango, cashew, and oranges have received a reprieve as the government extended the deadline for joining the revamped weather-based fruit crop insurance scheme until December 15. The announcement was made by the state's Agriculture Minister, Dattatray Bharane.
The need for an extension arose after many farmers faced difficulties in completing their registration and verification processes within the original timeframe. Responding to the request by the state, the Centre approved the new deadline for all notified districts for the Rabi season, Bharane explained in his statement.
Both loanee and non-loanee farmers are now eligible to enroll under this extended period, with the Government of India's premium share applicable for registrations completed during this time. Authorities have been directed to disseminate this information promptly to registration centres and media to maximize participation.
