In light of escalating security issues in Jammu and Kashmir, Arun Gupta, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Ramban, convened with registered NGOs in the district to assess their operations and documentation. Gupta emphasized vigilance, cautioning that adversaries might exploit lapses to instigate anti-national activities.
The NGOs were specifically reminded that their financial and operational records, especially under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, could be subject to inspection without notice. NGOs failing to adhere to mandatory regulations may face legal prosecution if found assisting anti-national elements, compromising national security.
An advisory issued requires NGOs to have up-to-date reports on balance sheets, member lists, personal information, and their activities. Gupta warned that any incriminating or suspicious findings during inspections would prompt legal action. Registration protocols have shifted, necessitating NGO registration as a Trust through district authorities, enhancing oversight by the police and administrative bodies.
