The Supreme Court has decided to transfer the suo moto case regarding the rape of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata to the Calcutta High Court. This transfer includes oversight of the Central Bureau of Investigation's probe and the formation of a National Task Force (NTF).
A bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma directed that a copy of the investigation status report be provided to the victim's parents. Senior Advocate Karuna Nundy, representing the family, made this request.
Despite Nundy's plea for a Supreme Court hearing on related issues, the bench stated that the High Court's monitoring was apt. The bench emphasized that the Calcutta High Court is capable of addressing all concerns, including those related to the NTF. This decision aligns with a previous Supreme Court ruling allowing the parents to move to the High Court.
