Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is poised to inaugurate a groundbreaking development in clean energy by laying the foundation for a Rs 13,000 crore green ammonia plant in Kakinada. This facility will boast an annual production capacity of 1.5 MMTPA, signifying a monumental shift toward eco-friendly ammonia production that's free from carbon emissions, according to an official statement on Friday.

Scheduled to occupy over 500 acres near the Kakinada port, this pioneering plant is expected to commence operations by the end of 2027. It will mark the nation's first venture into green ammonia production, transitioning a local grey ammonia plant into a hub of sustainability. Support from global partners, including Malaysia's Petronas, Singapore-based GIC, and UAE's ADIA, underlines the international interest in this project.

Project developers AM Green, focused on energy transition solutions, envision this initiative as a catalyst for Andhra Pradesh's emergence in the global green energy sector. With potential to create 8,000 jobs, the facility is not only a pillar for local employment but also a critical component in India's clean energy export strategy, with plans to ship green energy molecules to markets in Germany, Japan, and Singapore.
