QatarEnergy has announced the leasing of 10 liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers strategically positioned outside the Strait of Hormuz, according to two industry sources speaking to Reuters.

This move comes as the global LNG market faces disruptions following a production halt at Qatar's 77 million ton per annum facility, exacerbating shipping costs due to escalating U.S.-Iran tensions. Qatari Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi expressed uncertainty over the timeline for restoring normalcy, even if the conflict ended today.

Market analysts have pointed out the rising competition for LNG between the Atlantic and Pacific basins, resulting in multi-year high prices in Europe and Asia. Some of the tankers, set for European delivery, highlight the ongoing logistical challenges.
