Heightening Tensions: Aerial Attacks Target Middle Eastern Oil Infrastructure

In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, the SAMREF refinery in Yanbu, owned by Saudi Aramco, was attacked from the air, according to industry sources. Fortunately, the impact appears to be minimal so far. This incident is part of a series of attacks on energy facilities in Qatar and the UAE, seemingly in retaliation for U.S.-Israeli actions against Iranian energy infrastructure.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had previously issued warnings to various oil facilities across the region, including those in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar. The call for evacuations follows a significant strike on Iran's South Pars gas field, marking a notable escalation in the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil corridor, has further restricted Gulf Arab countries' oil exports.

Operations at the UAE's port of Fujairah have also been affected by a series of attacks, though there is no immediate update on Thursday's loadings. Meanwhile, QatarEnergy reported substantial damage to its core LNG facilities at Ras Laffan due to Iranian missile attacks. In related developments, Saudi Arabia destroyed missiles targeting Riyadh, and the UAE had to suspend operations at its Habshan gas facility.
