Bottled Water Prices Surge in India Due to Iran Conflict
The Iran war has led to an 11% surge in bottled water prices in India due to increased costs of plastic bottles and caps. Despite recent tax benefits, rising oil prices have negated these, impacting major brands like Bisleri. Geopolitical tensions have forced numerous price revisions.
The escalating conflict in Iran has resulted in a sharp increase in bottled water prices across India. The price hike is primarily driven by soaring costs for plastic bottles and caps, key components affected by the increasing oil prices. This adjustment has annulled recently introduced tax benefits on bottled water.
Bisleri, a major player commanding a significant share of the market, has already raised prices by 11%, reflecting the rising costs of production. The CEO of Bisleri, Angelo George, stated that packaging material costs have skyrocketed by over 70% in the past fortnight, necessitating a price revision.
Other industry leaders like Parle Agro and Clear Premium Water have also increased prices by around 8% to 11% in response to these geopolitical and economic pressures. The situation underscores the wider impact of the Iran war on global markets, especially in emerging economies like India.
