The Karnataka State Government has launched a CID investigation into the suspected custodial death of a 50-year-old man at Huliyaru police station in Tumakuru district. Home Minister G Parameshwar made the announcement, noting authorities are on standby for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
The victim, Kantaraju from Yalanadu village, tragically passed away around 1:30 AM while being interrogated over alleged involvement in gambling activities. Amidst rising tensions, locals staged a protest at the police station demanding justice and accountability, placing Kantaraju's body within the station premises to highlight their concerns.
The incident additionally sparked an increase in police presence in both Huliyaru and Yalanadu to mitigate further unrest. In parallel, a separate traffic accident in Tumakuru injured a police officer, prompting intervention and oversight from the local police department.
