GST Collections Surge: A Boost to India's Fiscal Health

GST collections in India grew to over Rs 2 lakh crore in March, driven by domestic and import-related tax revenues. The 2025 fiscal reported an 8.3% growth in gross GST to over Rs 22.27 lakh crore, with net revenues rising 7.1% to Rs 19.34 lakh crore after refund adjustments.

India's Gross GST collections witnessed a substantial rise of 8.8% in March, exceeding Rs 2 lakh crore, according to government data released on Wednesday. This growth was primarily fueled by increased taxes from both domestic sales and imports.

Specifically, domestic revenues grew by 5.9% to surpass Rs 1.46 lakh crore, while import-related tax collections surged by 17.8%, reaching Rs 53,861 crore. The issuance of refunds also saw a notable increase of 13.8% to Rs 22,074 crore during March.

Overall, the fiscal year 2025-26 recorded a robust growth in gross GST revenues, marking an 8.3% rise to over Rs 22.27 lakh crore. After adjusting for refunds, net GST revenues amounted to Rs 19.34 lakh crore, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 7.1%.
