Russia's Fuel Lifeline To Cuba: Second Oil Shipment On Its Way

Russia, via its Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, has announced plans to send another oil shipment to Cuba. This comes after the first major oil delivery in three months arrived, following a U.S. waiver on the fuel blockade, citing humanitarian reasons. Each delivery will be reviewed individually.

Russia is preparing to send another oil shipment to Cuba, as reported by the Interfax news agency on Thursday, quoting Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev. Currently, the cargo is being loaded and set on its course.

Earlier this week, a tanker under the Russian flag delivered approximately 700,000 barrels of crude to Cuba's Matanzas oil terminal. This marks the first substantial delivery of oil to the island in about three months.

The U.S., under President Donald Trump's administration, has instituted a blockade on fuel deliveries to Cuba. However, a specific waiver was granted to allow this particular delivery on humanitarian grounds, with the promise that future decisions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
