Interest in Turkey's first nuclear power station, the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, is mounting as Turkish companies consider obtaining a stake in the project. This development was confirmed by Alexei Likhachev, the head of Russia's state atomic energy corporation Rosatom.
In a statement dating back to December, Turkey's energy minister disclosed that $9 billion in new Russian financing had been secured for the project. While the initial target for operational status was set for 2025, delays have pushed expectations to 2026.
Rosatom, under a 2010 agreement valued at $20 billion, is spearheading the construction of this pioneering nuclear power station situated in the Mediterranean province of Mersin, Turkey.
