The relentless heatwave in Rajasthan intensified on Sunday, with Barmer registering the highest temperature at a scorching 46.4°C, according to the meteorological department. The extreme heat forced residents to minimize outdoor activities, leaving Barmer's streets unusually empty during the hottest parts of the day.

Heatwave conditions prevailed across several regions of the state, with maximum temperatures hovering between 42°C and 45°C. Barmer remained the hottest spot at 46.4°C, reported the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Jaipur. Among the residents, there was a consensus on the harshness of the weather, with a local expressing to ANI that day-time movement had become notably challenging.

The heatwave is projected to persist in some parts of Rajasthan for the next 24 to 48 hours, though a shift in weather patterns is anticipated. Amid escalating temperatures and intensifying heatwave conditions, Delhi's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta instructed authorities to rigorously enforce the Heat Wave Action Plan 2026. Highlighting the seriousness, she noted the worrying trend of Delhi experiencing 40°C-plus temperatures for nearly 40 continuous days over the past years. This year, a comprehensive scientific assessment using satellite data has been conducted to pinpoint high-risk areas in the city.
