Russian economy contracts 0.3% in first quarter in for first time in three years, data shows

Russia’s gross domestic product (GDP) contracted by 0.3% in the first quarter of 2026, its first quarterly contraction since early 2023, the economy ministry's preliminary data showed on Wednesday.
The data showed that GDP grew by 1.8% in March after declines of 1.1% in February and 1.8% in January.
