Thermax and Ankur Scientific have partnered to develop India's inaugural green methanol production facility at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat. The plant aims to contribute to the maritime industry's transition from fossil fuels by producing 18,000 tonnes of methanol annually, addressing nearly half of the projected demand by 2030.

The facility will incorporate state-of-the-art biomass gasification technology, ensuring production quality that meets ASTM grade standards with over 99.9% purity. It is designed to produce around 5 tonnes of green methanol daily, a cleaner energy alternative for ships, aiding India's move towards energy self-reliance.

This venture aligns with national goals to deploy sustainable solutions in hard-to-abate sectors. Deendayal Port Authority will lead the charge as one of the first ports embracing green methanol, emphasizing eco-friendly operations. Leaders from both organizations underscore the initiative as a pivotal advancement for biomass-based clean energy production.
