Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has lost Kolathur, his longstanding political stronghold, to VS Babu of the newly established Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking a significant shift in the state's political landscape. VS Babu, in a closely contested race, emerged victorious by a margin of 8,795 votes, according to the Election Commission of India's latest count.

The atmosphere was celebratory as Babu received his winning certificate at the Loyola College counting centre. This defeat is noteworthy as it signifies the first time Stalin will not represent Kolathur in the Assembly since the constituency's creation in 2008. This outcome highlights TVK's impressive debut and suggests a potential transformation in Tamil Nadu's political scene.

As per the Election Commission's latest data at 5:30 PM, TVK has captured 14 victories and is leading in 94 seats, overshadowing the incumbent DMK, which holds 7 wins and 53 leads. The AIADMK alliance trails further behind with 2 wins and 43 leads, while Congress secured a single win and 4 leads. This election has defied the traditional belief that actor-turned-politicians struggle for success, as Vijay joins the ranks of NT Rama Rao, MG Ramachandran, and J Jayalalithaa, with his cinematic popularity translating into political success. If TVK maintains its lead, it would represent the first non-DMK or AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu since 1977.
