Uganda's Coffee Boom: Exports Rise Amid Global Price Dip

Uganda's coffee exports rose by 2.9% in March compared to the previous year, driven by a good crop. While the volume increased, the earnings were down by 13.6% due to lower global prices. Despite this, Uganda's annual earnings from coffee exports climbed to $2.4 billion.

Uganda's coffee industry experienced a significant growth in exports for March, with a 2.9% rise compared to the same period last year, according to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.

The report highlights the increased production of coffee, which has contributed to Uganda's position as Africa's largest coffee exporter, surpassing Ethiopia. In March alone, Uganda shipped 671,152 60-kg bags, marking a notable increase.

Despite the rise in export volumes, the country's earnings in March were down 13.6% from the previous year due to a drop in global prices. Nonetheless, Uganda's overall annual earnings from coffee exports reached $2.4 billion, a significant rise from $1.8 billion in the prior year.
