Around 1,600 tonnes of dry fodder were donated to TTD Goshalas (cow shelters) on Sunday. The fodder, transported in 180 lorries from Jaggampeta in Kakinada district, was handed over to TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary at the Sri Venkateswara Goshala here. ''TTD Board Member Jyothula Nehru and Srinivasa Seva Trust Chairman T Satyanarayana, along with donors and farmers from Jaggampeta, contributed around 1,600 tonnes of dry fodder to TTD Goshalas for the welfare of cattle being maintained by the temple body,'' said a release from the temple body. Chowdary appreciated the organisers for mobilising the fodder and bearing transportation expenses for the large-scale contribution, describing cow protection activities as a service to society. According to the temple body, the fodder will be supplied to TTD-run Goshalas located in Tirupati, Tirumala, Palamaneru, and Kamalayyagaripalli near Bakarapeta, where nearly 3,000 cows, bulls, and calves are currently being maintained. Nehru said 38 lorries of fodder were donated last year, while 180 lorries were offered this year, and thanked farmers for contributing the fodder free of cost. He also donated two cows and a calf to the Sri Venkateswara Goshala on the occasion, the press release added. Sri Venkateswara Gosamrakshana Trust supports the protection and maintenance of cows under TTD and promotes awareness on the spiritual and economic importance of cattle among devotees and the public. The trust also supports Sri Venkateswara Dairy Farm, which supplies milk and curd for temple rituals, annadanam, prasadam preparation and several TTD-run welfare institutions. PTI MS ADB
