In a significant advancement for India's agriculture and public health sectors, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) have jointly launched 'SEHAT - Science Excellence for Health through Agricultural Transformation'. This national mission is designed to leverage agricultural innovation to improve health outcomes nationwide.
Health Minister JP Nadda hailed the initiative as a 'historic step', marking a shift towards proactive and preventive healthcare under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nadda emphasized the importance of integrated systems and home-grown innovations in enhancing healthcare delivery, stressing that SEHAT reflects India's commitment to a holistic health model.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted the program's goal to align food production with health needs, underscoring the relevance of diet in combating lifestyle diseases. The SEHAT mission aims at promoting sustainable agriculture and educating the population on nutritious diets, aiming to transform food into medicine for national well-being.
