NJ TRANSIT Slashes World Cup Ticket Prices Amidst Political Backlash
NJ TRANSIT reduced World Cup ticket prices from $150 to $98, following criticism from fans and political figures. The price cut, facilitated by extra advertising revenue, aims to alleviate the financial burden on local taxpayers amid FIFA's billion-dollar earnings. The World Cup begins June 11.
NJ TRANSIT has announced a significant cut in its World Cup ticket prices, dropping the cost from an original $150 to $98 per round trip. This decision comes in response to mounting criticism from both local fans and political figures, including U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.
Complaints have arisen over the financial impact on New Jersey taxpayers, who face substantial costs for the event's security and related disruptions, while FIFA is set to make considerable profits. NJ TRANSIT Chair Priya Jain highlighted that the price reduction was made possible through additional advertising revenue, ensuring commuters and daily customers aren't financially affected.
The tournament, co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, is scheduled to commence on June 11, and this move is hoped to ease tensions ahead of the event.
