In a significant operation against Left Wing Extremism, the Gadchiroli Police along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have arrested eight Maoist operatives and facilitated the surrender of five high-ranking cadres as part of 'Operation Antim Prahar'. This operation marks a critical setback for Maoist activities in the region.

The arrested individuals included two Divisional Committee Members and two Platoon Party Committee Members, some of whom were implicated in a fatal encounter on February 7. The operation also led to the seizure of 51 firearms and a considerable amount of cash intended for future attacks.

Meanwhile, five senior Maoists laid down their arms, citing government policies and disillusionment with insurgency. Police relayed that with this outcome, the Maoist influence in Gadchiroli is on the verge of collapse, with activities now limited to a few isolated areas.
