Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Vijay Joseph has called for a swift advancement of the state's power infrastructure projects amidst rising electricity demand. In a recent review meeting, the CM focused on fulfilling a key electoral promise to provide 200 free units of electricity to domestic consumers with a consumption total of 500 units or less.
The meeting included an in-depth evaluation of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDC) and its subsidiaries, looking at current power generation capacity, electricity demand, and ongoing infrastructure development. Vijay emphasized the necessity for timely action in infrastructure improvements to cater to the growing needs of urban centers, industries, and agriculture.
Officials presented how the TNPDC achieved state peak demand of 21,326 MW without interruptions. They discussed strategies for future power efficiency, including establishing new substations, modernizing infrastructure, expanding transmission lines, and advancing the Green Corridor project to leverage solar and wind energy.
