Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant spearheaded a critical meeting with the State Disaster Management Authority to scrutinize monsoon preparedness across state and local levels. High-ranking officials, including those from the Indian Coast Guard, participated in the review of safety measures to ensure round-the-clock operation of Emergency Operation Centres and Control Rooms during the monsoon.
The meeting underscored essential actions such as addressing dangerous hoardings, desilting drains, and reinforcing emergency communication networks. Sawant stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination, readiness of rescue teams, installation of cautionary signage at risk-prone areas, and regulations against unsafe practices, like swimming in abandoned mining pits.
The state emergency helpline is active via 0832-2419550, with the Emergency Response Support System on 112. Parallelly, Uttarakhand's authorities have ramped up preventive strategies in response to an IMD alert predicting severe weather. Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman confirmed the alignment of multi-level efforts to reduce the monsoon's impact.
