George Kurian, the Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, assured on Monday that the Center will fully support Keralam's new government. He emphasized the necessity for the state to effectively implement centrally sponsored schemes like the Ayushman Vayojana and PM SHRI, while warning against internal political strife that could undermine governance.

On the same day, Keralam's Chief Minister VD Satheesan announced significant welfare measures following the first cabinet meeting of the newly established UDF government. Key initiatives include free rides on Keralam State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses for all women starting June 15, as part of the UDF's election promises. This initiative, the Chief Minister noted, is inspired by Japan’s public transport model, which the state plans to further study and adapt.

The Chief Minister also revealed plans to establish a Department for the Elderly, marking a first in India. He underscored the importance of addressing challenges posed by an ageing population and outlined Keralam's ambition to set a benchmark for elder care and welfare, reflecting the province's values of respect and care for senior citizens.
