The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to embark on a comprehensive fuel conservation initiative termed 'Fuel saving is fuel creation'. This concept, announced by State Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik, aims to manage the spiraling fuel costs effectively. Speaking at a meeting with senior MSRTC officials at his Mantralaya office, Sarnaik emphasized the urgency in reducing the corporation's daily diesel consumption, which stands at an average of 10.87 lakh litres.
Sarnaik outlined a strategic plan where every State Transport depot will endeavor to save at least 5 litres of diesel daily. This collective effort could result in statewide savings of at least 1,000 litres per day, translating to nearly Rs 1 lakh in daily savings at current diesel prices. 'Such small savings can accumulate into substantial financial reserves, boosting ST’s fiscal strength over time,' Sarnaik stated. Instructions are slated to be disseminated to divisional controllers and depot managers, urging them to establish and pursue depot-specific diesel-saving goals while scrutinizing and optimizing fuel consumption regularly.
Incentives are designed to motivate, with exceptional drivers being celebrated for their diesel conservation efforts. 'An ST driver's role extends beyond mere operations; they are pivotal in crafting the organization’s economic viability,' Sarnaik added. Depots surpassing their fuel-saving aims will garner monthly accolades and perks, fostering a competitive spirit and magnifying the movement’s efficacy.
Training programs will tackle poor kilometres per litre (KPL) performances with a focus on refining driving techniques to bolster fuel efficiency. Daily technical checks and prompt repairs will be prioritized to address mechanical issues contributing to fuel wastage. Sarnaik highlighted that mismanagement in vehicle maintenance, such as incorrect tyre pressure and faulty engine tuning, are key factors in fuel inefficiency. Emphasis is being laid on the imperative role of workshop staff in this conservation mission.
By championing this initiative, Sarnaik underscored the dual importance of trimming expenditures and safeguarding national resources. He urged every member of the MSRTC community to embrace this campaign and actively partake in its successful execution. (ANI)
