Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, highlighted yoga's ancient Indian roots dating back 5,000 years, and its current status as a worldwide movement enhancing physical and mental well-being. He emphasized yoga's universal appeal and its increasing adoption across the globe, noting that Yogasana is evolving beyond wellness into a competitive sport.
Mandaviya further described yoga as a crucial element of India's soft power. He noted the upcoming championship as a chance for India to showcase its cultural impact and leadership in yoga globally. Meanwhile, as India bids for the 2036 Olympic Games, efforts are underway to gain recognition for Yogasana as an official Olympic sport, underscoring India's pivotal role in the sport's global expansion.
