In a contentious development within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Member of Parliament Kalyan Banerjee launched a vehement rebuttal against allegations made by his colleague, Kakoli Ghosh, accusing him of verbally abusing her in the Lok Sabha. During a press briefing, Banerjee scrutinized Ghosh's motives, highlighting the suspicious timing of her complaint.
Banerjee emphasized the parliamentary protocol which requires immediate notification to the Lok Sabha Speaker concerning any floor incidents. He suggested Ghosh’s actions pointed to ulterior motives, casting doubt on the veracity of her claims against him. The allegations, he stressed, appear contrived and motive-driven.
In stark contrast, Ghosh reached out to Speaker Om Birla, seeking permission to file a formal grievance. Her letter delineated concerns about recurrent misogynistic conduct, not just directed at her, but as part of a larger trend against female parliamentarians. Consequently, she resigned from her leadership role within the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress, citing intolerable misogyny and personal ethical conflicts.
