In a fiery denunciation, MP Mahua Moitra condemned the recent defection of several Trinamool Congress lawmakers to the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing them of betraying their electorate. This followed 58 of TMC's 80 legislators aligning with BJP, thus crossing the two-thirds threshold to bypass anti-defection laws, and naming Ritabrata Banerjee as Leader of the Opposition.

Targeting the Election Commission, Moitra accused it of acting under BJP's influence, while criticizing the conduct of central forces and the alleged voter roll alterations. She emphasized that the rebel MLAs were elected under Mamata Banerjee's leadership, which garnered 41% of the vote, claiming the defectors couldn't deny this fact.

Calling for a 'purification' of the party, Moitra dared the defectors to seek re-election with a new symbol, 'Bijemool'. As the political climate in West Bengal remains tense, TMC leadership views the rebellion as a breach of voter trust and ideological principles, reinforcing Mamata Banerjee's control over the party's leadership.
