Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai announced on Friday the creation of a new political movement that will take part in the forthcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This declaration followed his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), signifying a pivotal shift in his political trajectory.

Annamalai had conveyed his intention to resign to the BJP leadership well before the state elections, citing internal conflicts about his identity as both a party member and a Tamilian. He officially resigned after the elections, with BJP National President Nitin Nabin accepting his resignation and expressing gratitude for Annamalai's dedicated service.

The decision to form a new party comes shortly after Annamalai's visit to New Delhi, where he had discussions with BJP leaders, amid speculation of his departure following BJP's poor performance in the state elections. Despite recent successes, such as raising the party's vote share, Annamalai's departure underscores unresolved tensions within the BJP's regional dynamics.
