In a sweeping initiative, Punjab police have executed a rigorous clampdown on traffic violations, inspecting over 29,000 vehicles and distributing in excess of 4,200 challans over a five-day span. This decisive statewide move against the illegal use of hooters, sirens, and flashers on private vehicles, announced officials on Saturday, was set into motion under the directive of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav.

The Information and Public Relations Department reported that the initiative targeted private vehicles exploiting signaling equipment to skirt traffic laws and project undue authority. Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order, Praveen Sinha, emphasized the exclusive use of these devices for emergency vehicles, declaring that the misuse by private individuals will not be tolerated.

Detailing the results of the operation, Special DGP Sinha disclosed that police teams scrutinized a total of 29,324 vehicles, managing to confiscate 52 hooters, 10 sirens, and 403 flashers from unauthorized vehicles. Additionally, over 4,221 violators faced fines, and 48 vehicles were seized. Sinha warned of stringent legal repercussions, affirming the continuity of the drive and promising rigorous legal pursuit against future violations.
