The battle for Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand heated up as BJP-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani filed his nomination papers on Monday, pledging to campaign based on his record. His entry adds intrigue to the election as three hopefuls compete for two coveted spots.

The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and its ally Congress have fielded one candidate each. Meanwhile, the BJP faces the challenge of securing additional votes to ensure Nathwani's victory. Monday marked the final day for filing nominations for the biennial election.

Nathwani, a former Member of Parliament, expressed confidence in his chances, citing support from locals. Having spent over a decade in the region, he emphasized his readiness to serve, aiming to leverage his notable achievements to propel his campaign.

The Election Commission's June 1 notification outlines biennial elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats across various states. This includes elections in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, among others. Notifications for bypolls in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha were also issued.
