The Rouse Avenue court has granted permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to question accused Manisha Waghmare, Shubham Khairnar, and Dhananjay Lokhande in jail as part of the ongoing NEET-UG paper leak investigation. The interrogation is set to take place from June 17 to June 19, as per the application approved by Vacation Judge Surendra Mohit Singh, with a one-hour session allotted for each accused.
The court extended the judicial custody of several others accused in the case, including Mangilal Biwal, Vikas Biwal, and others, with their detention now set to continue until June 29. These individuals were presented before the court via video conferencing from Tihar Jail. Senior Public Prosecutor VK Pathak, alongside Investigation Officer BP Raju, represented the CBI.
The CBI's recent application for interrogating the accused in jail follows new evidence uncovered from witness statements. An FIR originally filed on May 12 reported offences under the BNS, Prevention of Corruption Act, and other charges concerning the use of unfair means in examinations. Allegedly, a leaked question paper was circulated by an intricate network involving the accused, with transactions purportedly amounting to Rs 10-12 lakh.
