India Aims for Edible Oil Independence Amid Global Geopolitical Concerns

Meanwhile, the impact of West Asian geopolitical shifts on India's road infrastructure was also discussed, highlighting ongoing parliament-level examinations on various national sectors.

On Monday, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution conducted a comprehensive review of India's edible oil industry. The meeting, led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, concentrated on initiatives to enhance domestic production and diminish reliance on imports. Key policy measures were scrutinized to achieve self-sufficiency in edible oil production, with an emphasis on supporting local farmers.

The meeting's agenda included a briefing by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on the status of the edible oil sector. Kanimozhi described the discussion as crucial, stating that departments were queried on their plans to achieve self-reliance and assist farmers. The committee intends to present its findings to Parliament soon.

Simultaneously, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, chaired by Janata Dal (United)'s Sanjay Kumar Jha, reviewed the effects of West Asian geopolitical developments on India's road infrastructure. The impact on the sector was examined, involving discussions with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Additionally, a separate meeting will evaluate the coal block auction and allocation process.
