United States President Donald Trump has said that a lot of progress has been made with Iran and the US is not looking for regime change in Iran, according to media reports. At the same time, he also said Iran should get out of Yemen. The details of the progress have not been disclosed yet. Meanwhile the US State Secretary, Mike Pompeo has reportedly announced that Iran had said it was prepared to negotiate about its missile program.
The statement has come after Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that his country does not want a war with the US and the door is always open to diplomacy if Trump removes the harsh economic sanctions on Iran.
In 2018, Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or the Iranian nuclear deal, restoring and imposing new sanctions against the country and later deploying additional US troops near Iran's borders. A year after the US withdrawal, Tehran suspended some of its obligations under the deal, urging the US to end the sanctions and return to the agreement.
