UK PM assures Irish PM of no physical border checks

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has assured the Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar that there will be no physical border checks, according to news agency AFP. The Irish government has time and again said that it will have no new checks at or near the border if there is a no-deal Brexit.

The updated contingency plan has warned that the Brexit without a deal would mean cross-border trade could not be as frictionless as it is today. The plan says new checks will be "necessary to preserve Ireland's full participation in the Single Market and Customs Union". But it does not elaborate on where and how such checks would take place.

On the other hand, the new UK PM Boris Johnson has assured that the Brexit will happen by 31 October whether there is a new deal agreed or not.
