Algeria: Arrest warrant issued against ex-defense minister Khaled Nezzar

An Algerian military court has issued an arrest warrant against former defense minister Khaled Nezzar for "conspiracy" charges. The court also issued arrest warrants for Nezzar's son Lotfi and one Farid Belhamdine. All of them are prosecuted for "conspiracy and breach of public order," according to local media reports.

Khaled Nezzar has served as Algeria's Minister of Defence in 1990 and played a key role in Algerian civil war. Nezzar was among the leading generals who decided to depose then-President Chadli Bendjedid and annul the elections won by Islamic Salvation Front. The move marked the beginning of a civil war.
